GURU as everyone knows is a teacher and  SHISHYA a student. I have been a student of Guru Jayashankar Menon now for more than fifteen years and so I took this opportunity to write some of my experience with my respected Guruji.

 My association with Guruji started when I was only 7 years old.I remember him as a strict descplinerian then and fifteen years later he still maintains that discipline. Even today when I start to go for my dance class I go weak on my knees just like i use to feel so many years ago.I have wondered many times why I behave so but while I am writing this I realize why.

A man who so selflessly has dedicated his whole life to a passion called dance ,he who has instilled values like honesty,punctuality,dedication and many others in us,one who made sure each one of us became perfectionists in Bharatnatyam ,cannot be just a danceteacher .He is much more than that! No wonder I get nervous at the mention of a dance class!

But having said all this I must admit that the moment i start dancing to Gurujis nattuvangam it is  total enjoyment. When my hands and feet do the teermanam exactly in synchronization with Gurujis nattuvangam it’s a pleasure which cannot be expressed in words.Its almost like I have won many awards in one day.
